INSTALL

1. Get Blender for your appropriate OS at www.blender.org and install it.

2. Launch Blender and open up the User Preferences from the File menu. Switch to the Addons tab and press the button Install from File… Browse to where you downloaded The Grove. Select TheGroveAddon.zip and press Install from File... in the top right.

3. Enable the Add-on by checking the box to the right.

4. Press Save User Settings to save your preferences and have The Grove installed next time you open Blender.

CHECK YOUR INSTALLATION

Close the User Preferences window. From the menu in the bottom of the 3D view, select Add > Mesh > The Grove. Not much will have happened until you open up the tool shelf from the View menu (or simply press t to toggle it).

The tool shelf will open to the left of the 3D view and most of it is occupied by the tool shelf tabs. At the bottom you will find the current tool options titled “The Grove”. If not, there’s a small + icon at the very bottom. Click it and drag the divider up over the tool tabs to get some more space. Make the tool shelf a bit wider by dragging the border with the 3D view to the right.

When the Add-on shows up, your installation was succesful. Be sure to back up your downloaded copy of The Grove Add-on for the future. After installing an update of Blender, it might be necessary to repeat the above steps.

emotions that it evokes.

So I delved into photography, hoping to find an answer to my burning question: How do photographers create interesting

lighting?

I read photography books. Articles. Watched real-time lighting workshops. Attended a night-time photography course. And

even paid to visit a photography studio to ask the photographer questions:
I hoped that there would be some secret style-sheet. Maybe a book of foolproof rules that work for every portrait…

What I found though was surprising, yet comforting: photographers actually struggle with lighting just as much as we

do.

There’s no magic bullet.

It’s a painstaking process for experimenting and running trials to find what works.

I learned that the only way to find interesting lighting setups is to experiment.

In this intermediate to advanced Cinema 4D course we’ll explore the Layer Shader capabilities within C4D and learn how to create complex multi-layered materials. Professor Tony Copolillo will be using Procedural Textures, Blending Modes, Folder Groups and Layer Masks to recreate some real-world textures without using any pixel-based imagery such as scanned images or photographs. All the textures we’ll create are generated from within Cinema 4D off-the-shelf without the use of expensive third party plug-ins.

We'll also build low-poly models by hand and compare them to C4D's Modeling Generator tools and then apply custom-built materials to achieve some superior results. Note that some classes will use MoGraph and the Hair Module not available in all versions of C4D.
