About this Course

If you are interested in creating 3D assets for games, and have never used 3D creation software before, this is a great place to start. This course explores the 3D art production pipeline as we model, texture, and export a game model into the Unity game engine.

We'll be working with Maya, the premiere 3D software package from Autodesk to develop a 3D game model using 2D concept images as a starting point.

This course will explore useful polygonal modeling tools to establish the basic form of our prop, applying color and using texture maps to suggest different materials and surface properties. Learn to organize the Maya scene file, and export the final prop into Unity so that it can be integrated into a game. By the end of this course, you will have an arsenal of great modeling tools at your disposal that you can use to create assets based on your own designs.

What you'll learn

- Working with Primitives
- Box Modeling Techniques
- Working with Colors and Textures
- Exporting Assets into Unity

Duration 3h 4m Project Files Included MP4

Having good dynamics is essential for your animations to move naturally and look realistic. This course, Introduction to Dynamics in Blender, will teach you the basics of Blender's Physics system in order to create wonderful and dynamic animations. You'll start with the fundamentals of working with the Rigid Body system, covering the most important parameters like Friction, Mass, and the difference between Active and Passive rigid bodies. You'll then move on to Cloth system and break down the various attributes that allow you to fine-tune the look of your cloth simulation, like Bending, Pinning and more. You'll then get your feet wet with Blender's fluid system, discussing the different types of fluid and learn about the importance of setting up your domain object. Finally, you'll learn how to use Blender's powerful Cell Fracture Tool to easily fracture geometry. By the end of this course, you will have a strong understanding of how to use Blender's Physics system and you'll be able to create animations that move realistically and smoothly. Software required: Blender v2.77.

Duration 2h 13m Project Files Included MP4

Creating textures that not only look good but are also tileable can be a hassle, but it doesn't have to be. In this course, Tileable Texture Creation in ZBrush, you will look into tools and techniques to create tileable textures within 3ds Max, ZBrush, and Photoshop. While doing that, you will learn how to plan the texturing process, look at techniques for seamless tileable texture baking in xNormal, and look into material editing in Unreal Engine 4 in order to blend the tileable textures together for next-gen games. By the end of this course, you will be able to create tileable textures that will make your projects look great and your workflow more efficient. Required Software: ZBrush, 3DS Max, Photoshop.

Pluralsight - Parametric Modeling and Sketch Constraints in Fusion 360

Duration 4h 1m Project Files Included MP4

Sketches and part modeling in a typical 3-4 day CAD class usually consume 50% of the time–these topics are that important. And within the parametric modeling process, having sketch constraints is essential. In this course, Parametric Modeling and Sketch Constraints in Fusion 360, you will learn how to model parts for your designs that follow the appropriate constraints. Initially, you’ll start creating 2D sketches and turning them into profiles, which in turn, can be extruded into a 3D model. In the second half of the course, you will progress into creation of multiple sketches, each with their own constraints. Finally, you will be modeling familiar 3D parts and putting everything into action – the sketch constraints, 2D dimensioning, work features, and the Modify and Create tools. By the end of this course, you will have mastered sketch constraints and parametric modeling, which will help you to design and manufacture better, more functional models in the future.

3DMotive - Quadruped Rigging in Maya Volume 1

Duration 1h 10m Project Files Included MP4

Quadrupeds come in various types, and they all have their own unique needs, but in this module we will rig a canine character which covers many of the unique problems in rigging a quadruped. Some of these problems include how to deal with the back leg and setting up a spline ik for the back.In the first module we will analyze the problem we are attempting to solve. We will start with talking about some basic rigging processes we will use throughout the modules, and then discuss how we will lay out our joints. At the end, we will bind our mesh to the joints and begin skinning. In the second module we will go through the process of skinning our character using tools such as the Paint Weights Tool, the Prune Small Weights function, and the Component Editor. In the third module, we start building the control rig to drive our bind joints, focusing on a simple fk control structure for the tail, and then working on the back dog legIn our fourth and final module, we will finish the rig, completing the front leg as well as the spine and the head/neck area. We will also illustrate how we can deal with some of the quirks we stumble over in Maya.

cmiVFX - Houdini XML Procedural Cities

cmiVFX launches its latest Full Feature training video in Houdini Generating Regional Procedural City Skeletons using Real GPS Data. Once again on the cutting edge of creating real world projects, cmiVFX demonstrates how to import map data and create Virtual Cities from around the world. Generating cities or street level data previously would take weeks or months and a team of artist. cmiVFX has streamlined that process with this innovative New Houdini series of creating skeleton cities. There is an increasing demand for creating virtual cities for film and broadcasting projects, however getting a city built and prepare it for deployment is not an easy task. The time and resources spent can be very time consuming and costly. cmiVFX provides an innovative solution in automating this virtual city generation process and reduces the time considerably as well as the resources allocated. Nothing is better than Houdini for such projects, but this course is not limited to just this application, the techniques demonstrated here can be utilized with any other 3D application and it will work the same.

Digital Tutors - Real-Time Vehicle Creation in Maya and Silo with Antony Ward

Software: Silo, Maya 2012,...
Dyration time: 3h 43m
Project Files Included

In this Maya tutorial we will focus on the creation of a real time sports car by covering three main areas. We'll start by building the high resolution model used for generating our detail maps. This can also be used for production renders and animation. Next, we can use this model to give us a head start in generating our game model, which will be no more than 10,000 polygons. Once the game model is built and optimized we will then focus on adding a good set of UVs before we generate its diffuse, normal and specular texture maps. By the end of this tutorial you will have learned how you can quickly create not only a high resolution vehicle but also a real-time version too and hopefully share some tips and shortcuts along the way which you can then apply to any other project.

Quixel 2 Substance (or any texturing suite really)

This pack contains all of the Quixel texture files in .tif form with you can turn into jpeg or whatever.

Regardless of what you may think these are all the actual resolutions of the materials... some even 1K...

Many materials do not have gloss or roughness or spec maps, however it is really simple to create them in photoshop or whatever here is what I do:

Gloss:
layer 2: any greyish color at 25% opacity
layer 1: duplicate original image greyscale and overlay blend mode
layer 0: original image greyscale (should use albedo)

Roughness:
layer 1: any greyish color at 75% opacity and screen blend mode
layer 0: inversed final gloss (from above or if included)

This image shows comparisons of the different texture maps to the albedo, it is helpful for getting yours right without having to view it in 3D the entire time: http://i.imgur.com/LlHjIQp.png

Also here is a comparison of the first material under construction that I created some maps real quick for: http://i.imgur.com/glJ4FoI.gifv

Left is just albedo and normal, right has albedo, normal, gloss and roughness.
