Typography is one of the major components of graphic design, and getting it wrong is very easy. But it is also not that difficult to get it right and make something awesome! In this series I will step by step go through all different aspects of typography and creating effective layouts which make an impact on the viewer. I am in love with good typography, and I want to see more of it around.

My name is Evgeniya Righini-Brand and I am a graphic designer with an extensive experience working with type on a lot of different levels and teaching typography at the university level.

What you’ll learn in this class:

In this class we are going to have a look at the basics of typesetting, principles of typographic contrast and selecting and pairing typefaces to convey the desired message. Style-related skills which you’ll get from this class will allow you to effectively tackle and make stand out any simple text-based work, whether it is a presentation, setting up a title page for your written academic work or making a catchy cover images for you classes or projects here on Skillshare or elsewhere on the social networks.

Software:

Technical part of this class covers basics of working in Adobe InDesign, but if you don’t have InDesign installed, don’t let it stop you from enrolling, because you can practice typesetting and style-related skills taught in this class in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop or any standard word processor, such as Pages, Word or even Google Docs.

In this course, I am going to share my process with you!

We will cover the basics of Photoshop for digital painting and illustration. The class will explore tools and techniques for translating color theory into the digital space.

Photoshop is a key program used in all creative industries. It is critical that an artist understands how to paint comfortably in Photoshop, as it is a versatile and efficient tool. From concept art to book illustration, Photoshop can be used by painters to broaden their potential client list and students can learn to apply this skill to an industry of their choice.

What You'll Learn

You will learn the basics of using Photoshop (CS3 to CS6) to paint digital illustrations. We'll cover:

* Assemble your Still Life. How to set your scene
* Brushes. How to create unique brushes, techniques for illustration versus print
* Layers. How to use layers, adjustment layers, masks and groups
* Color. How to capture color theory digitally
* Tablet. How to use a drawing tablet

What You'll Do

You will use Photoshop to paint a still life setup assembled by objects or themes you wish to use. You will translate your still life into a digital medium and complete one painting. This will include a series of color tests, a black and white mock-up, and a final painting. A final piece should take as long as you deem necessary in order to be as familiar with the program as possible.

3DMotive – Intro to 3ds Max 2017 Volume 2

Most programs have a multitude of buttons, gizmos and menus that often clutter up and confuse students as to where everything is and what they're mostly likely going to use in a production atmosphere. Intro to 3ds Max is designed to focus on what the student is going to need to know to start and finish any model they choose to undertake to create. The UI, and customization of same, will be explored as well the major creation methods and using sub-object functions (vertex, edge, polygon, element) to their best advantage. From using photo references, the student will be able to clearly and concisely model parts and refine details to create finished meshes. They'll learn to use smoothing groups to best advantage when applying modifiers (turbo smooth) and why such smoothing groups are important. After completing the mesh, the student will then be exposed to UVs and the new unwrap features found in 3DS Max 2017 to facilitate the speed in which the meshes can be unwrapped and laid out for proper texture usage. Finally, the students will be taught how to bake a simple ambient occlusion map quickly and easily to help give their meshes a more believeable three dimensional quality so that they can then create the colours for the model as they see fit and blend into the AO to create a usable model.

Origin: http://www.lightwave3d.com/
2018 Release: http://www.lightwave3d.com/news/article/newtek-announces-latest-release-of-lightwave-3d-2018/

LightWave 2018 highlights include:

Physically Based Rendering System: Completely rewritten rendering, shading and lighting architecture for greater realism, accuracy and ease-of-use

Render and Light Buffers: Expanded workflow for render and light buffers that simplifies compositing and offers more flexibility, including real-time preview of new buffers in any viewport using VPR, as well as custom buffers using the node editor

Volumetric Engine and Open VDB Support: Using the new volumetric render primitives, artists can specify physically based properties, Scattering, Absorption and Emission parameters, along with powerful node networks

Light Capabilities: New lighting architecture brings physical lights that can be optionally visible to the camera, and improved loading of IES web files to better match the intensity of real manufactured lights

Surface Editor, Material Nodes and Surface Preview: The Surface Editor has been overhauled for the new shading system with powerful node-based materials that are presented with a familiar interface

Virtual Reality Camera: Includes both cylindrical and spherical modes for creating stereo 360-degree renders and animations for VR applications

Modifier Stack with New Deformation Nodes: Unlocks and simplifies the previously fixed order of operations for Bones, Morphs, Subdivision and Displacements with the ability to drag and drop to re-order mesh deformations interactively

Cel Shader and Enhanced Edge Rendering: Offers flexible non photoreal render control over material shading and allows gradient-based cel shading, while Edge Rendering uses any material available in the Surface Editor to shade any line

More Integrated FiberFX: Expanded to integrated closely with the new lighting and shading system and can use any material on the fibers. Fibers are now generated using the new primitive object architecture

Layout-based Parametric Shapes: Parametric shapes allow for creation of virtual primitive shapes in Layout that can be displaced, surfaced and rendered without needing any geometry

Noise Reduction Filter: Speeds up render times by using less Global Illumination rays and samples, while allowing for clean up of the resulting noise using filters instead of increased render settings

New Modeler Features: Layout View viewport shows the current camera view from Layout. Also new are fully interactive tools including Lattice, Smoothing, Array and Spline Bridge

Additionally, LightWave 2018 includes new enhancements to the Viewport Preview Renderer (VPR) and introduces many additional new features and improvements such UDIM texture support, more supported presets, FiberFX, Unity 5 support, and more.

"At Stargate Studios our VFX workflow for hit shows like 'The Walking Dead,' 'Grey's Anatomy,' and 'NCIS: Los Angeles' require massive stability and performance—LightWave delivers both," says Al Lopez, vice president of Creative Services, Stargate Studios.
