Skillshare – Intro to Graphic Design - Expressing Emotion with Color Theory with Dominic Flask

Before you can become a skilled craftsman in the application of color, you must have a firm understanding of color theory. You need to know what colors exist, how they relate to each other, and how to review and discuss the use of color so you can build effective and beautiful color palettes in everything that you create.

What You'll Learn

In this class you will learn how to build and use effective color palettes in order to convey a sense of emotion to your audience. You will use color to express a series of different emotions in order to study how color can affect perception. You will learn tips and tricks on building effective and expansive color palettes as well as ways to edit and control color in both Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. We'll cover:

* Color Theory. We'll start with the bare bones of color theory, talk about terminology, look at different ways of creating color, and discuss how to build a color palette.
* The Context of Color. We'll look at some of the meaning behind color and how to use color that supports what you're trying to convey.

* Expanding Your Palette. In the final section, we'll take a look at some tips and tricks for polishing your use of color in a project, all while expanding and adding depth to your palette.

What You'll Make

For this class you'll create a series of images that express different emotions. You can choose which emotions you want to portray, or you can choose from a suggested list. We'll work with a set size of 600 x 600 pixels, but the content is up to you. Want to illustrate the emotions of different flavors of popsicles? Awesome! Want to create a set of icons showing the different emotions of R2D2? Great! We'll talk about the best way to use color in any and every scenario.

Skillshare – Intro to Graphic Design - Illustrating Badges and Icons with Geometric Shapes with Dominic Flask

In the world of social media, blogs, networks, tweets, chirps and posts, graphic icons and badges are everywhere. Have you ever wanted to design your own set of icons or badges to contribute to this visual internet wonderland? If so, you've come to the right place.

We'll focus on honing in on an idea, refining and crafting the details of a central concept before moving on to sketching. Then I'll dive into my process and show you a ton of tips and tricks for using basic geometric shapes in Illustrator to craft complex visuals in a minimal amount of space. We'll work through color palettes, details and consistency. You will complete a set of graphics that are both cohesive and individual.

What You'll Learn

* Building Ideas. We will begin exploring ideas for what you want to execute in your final project. I will share my brainstorming process with you and you will work on developing your own ideas.
* Building Consistency. We will cover basic theories of graphic design for building visual consistency, including shape, geometry, and color.
* Building a Series. We will discuss how to create a balance of unity and variety within your badges.

What You'll Make

You will create a series of at least 6 icons or badges that focus on a central theme of your choosing– animals, robots, spaceships, buildings, food, social media, you name it! We'll execute these ideas by drawing them out with basic vector shapes as an exercise in restraint and simplification.

You'll be working with other students to refine the visuals and hone in on the best possible outcome and craft something unique for your portfolio. I'll also explain the basics of form, shape and gestalt design principles that will help take your work to the next level.

This 41-minute tutorial specifically explains the line types I use when freehand drawing. Lines covered and defined are: Cut, Shut, Part, Assembly, Contour, Section, Design, Graphic, Silhouette, Sketch, Overlapping, Reflection, and Fillet/Radius. I explain these line types by showing my own past sketches, 11 of which are included with the tutorial, and by drawing several of the line types via simple quick sketching demos. This tutorial is a foundation-level tutorial intended for anyone who loves to draw form with line and would like to understand and improve the variety of lines they can use when doing that. The AV recording is at 720p resolution and the sketches were scanned at 400dpi. If you own my book, How To Draw, this tutorial reinforces and builds on what's in that book. Thanks again for your support and helping to get the word out about this Gumroad account.

Skillshare - Character Rigging with DUIK Bassel - Jake Bartlett

In this class, I'll show you how to design and rig a character for animation in After Effects! Rigging is the setup process of your artwork that streamlines the animating workflow. You'll learn everything you need to get up and running with character animation.

I'll be teaching you how to use free Duik Bassel script to rig our characters. Duik Bassel introduces an entirely new way of rigging characters in After Effects through its structures system. Structures allow you to build a character rig independently from the character artwork, which is a much more efficient and flexible way to rig.

The great thing about this technique is that it isn't limited to any design style. You could create a flat vector character in Illustrator, or a hand illustrated and textured character in Photoshop. If you can design it, I'll show you how to rig it.

Stripe : create a stripe with substripes divisions and procedural animations.
Stripes Circle : create a circle stripe with substripes divisions and procedural animations.
Connections : animate lines between helpers or vertices, with texts and dots as well.
Trail : make a mesh trail along object trajectory or following spline deformations.
Function : animate a line with dots and animated numbers values.

Dots Line : lines of dots, it has 4 different modes : line, circle, anchors, along spline.
Dots Sphere : create a dots sphere where you can animate dots parameters with a map.
Network + Network Dots and Network Stripes : advanced way of making grids, lines…etc with much more control over the dots transforms and aspects, the Network can be deformed in 3D.
Numbers : animate number values.
Polygon : create a polygon between helpers, or from a Network object, with outline and dots options.
Symbols : animate a serie of custom symbols as if they were numbers values.
Rays : project rays from mesh vertices to another mesh surface, with lines and dots options.
New in V1.01 :
4 new UI tools.

Pattern : create a procedural array with controls over the position, rotation and scale, and each n transformations…etc
Float Strob : a new float controller which can be applied everywhere, to control visibility, light intensity, colors, object parameters…etc and make strob/flick procedural animations.
A lot of bug corrections, stability and speed improvements, updated help file and tutorials.

You can use our tool EchOoo Pro with all the UI Toolkit tools to enhance it, make copies and offset their animation. If you use it with the Numbers object, you can easily create a matrix effect…etc
You can use our tool Atom with the Network object. Because the Network is only vertices, Atom can connect them with dots and lines to make a Plexus effect.
