Pluralsight - Character Head Modeling A Different Approach

$

Duration 5h 5m Project Files Included MP4

Learn a different approach to modeling heads by using linear NURBS curve cage production as a first step. This approach is fundamentally different from traditional methods and, once mastered, allows you to model from photos as well as drawings. So...

Modeling requires the artist to think in 3D, but how can you do this when your computer screen and pencil and paper operate in 2D? In this course, Character Head Modeling: A Different Approach, you will unlock the connection between 2D and 3D thinking through a different approach to 3D modeling (as opposed to more traditional methods such as box modeling). First, you will learn about schematics and how to use contour lines extracted from drawings and photographs of the face. Next, you'll discover how to generate a 3D linear NURBS cage, and with it, you will create your head model polygon by polygon, from all parts of the face to the ears and back of the head. By the end of this course, you'll have a new approach to head modeling that will help you create better character models than ever. Software required: Maya 2016, Photoshop cc 2015.

3D Animation with Blender

Have you ever wanted to become an animator and bring your imagination to life?

In this course you receive a .Blend file with a free character, scene and props created in the amazing and free 3D software called Blender.

The course begins by creating a character pose. This simple pose forms the basis of the characters actions. The characters pose allows for for easy animation throughout the scene. This pose involves parenting or connecting a controller object to the characters hand. The Character will be animated using this object later in the scene.

Next we create a walk cycle for our character. We add a path object to the scene and animate him walking backwards along it as he carefully guides a paint rig into the scene.

To give the character some reactions we will use shape keys that control some simple face movements that are easily animated throughout the scene.

We set up a camera to help capture the story of the scene and animate its movement from start to finish.

We will set up multiple scenes within Blender and render these scenes out in PNG format. Then we will use Blenders video editing features to quickly and easily combine those scenes with sound and render out the the short animation to view on a media player such as VLC.

Sound easy? You'll be surprised at the results you can achieve with a little time and effort, using this amazing and extremely powerful application that is Blender.

Duration 1h 14m Project Files Included MP4

In this course we will be going through the process of creating a small stylized dungeon environment from the blockout stage to the final presentation. I will be guiding you through the process of modeling the low poly assets and show you different techniques of uving. We will then take our assets to zbrush where I will be showing how to define all the materials that you will find in this environment. We will use some of the zbrush sculpts to render tiling texture flats that we can composite in Photoshop. I will be guiding you through the process of painting the textures for a few assets so you can reproduce this process for the remaining models. Finally we are going to set up a scene in marmoset for the final presentation. At the end of this course you will be able to create and understand the workflow that I use to create stylized environments like this one.

Professor: Hugo Guerra
Software Version: HIERO 1.7

In this course, Hugo Guerra will dive into using the latest version of The Foundry's HIERO in production. HIERO has been designed for shot management, conform and review for visual effects; enabling collaborative workflows with NUKE and other editorial, VFX and finishing tools.

You will learn all the features of HIERO from a production point of view. The Flame community has seen a resurgence of interest in the venerable software. From a strong user-created Facebook community to user-led groups in New York, Los Angeles, Berlin, and other cities around the world, artists are once again excited about the software. The releases after the Anniversary edition have seen substantial improvements in stability and creative features, and free training editions have made the software more accessible to artists who want to learn Flame. Our Flame Masters course speaks to resurgence of the community, bringing three artist perspectives to lead the course.

Returning from his FLM208 course, Sam Edwards leads several lessons covering techniques artists can use every day on the job. From how to push the limits of morphing and warping techniques in Action to production-proven tips for cleaning up motion-estimated time warps. Edwards is a long-time flame user and owner, having recently composted over 250 shots for the new Cosmos television series. At IBC 2013, he was honored with “Recognition for versatility using Flame” as part of the Flame Award event.

Artist Scott Balkcom is a particles guru and will be sharing his tips and techniques for the first time with fxphd members. The particle system can be quite complex and intimidating for artists, but his series of four lessons aim to demystify the process. Balkcom will be showing how he uses particles to create realistic effects such as cold breath, snow, and even blood. He’s been using Flame for commercial, eposodic, and film work since 1993.

Flame is the hub where it call comes together at the end of the project, and to that end our last prof John Fegan will be sharing job-proven workflow techniques. He’s recently completed a short film where he served as Avid Editor, effects artist, and finisher — and will be showing a solid workflow to help you get your job done efficiently.

https://www.fxphd.com/fxphd/courseDetails.php?idCourse=289

This intermediate (pushing advanced) level course discusses fluid effects in Houdini. Profs Jonathan Gilbert and John Moncrief will help members become familiar with Houdini’s Dynamics Operators (DOPs) and the different fluid types: SPH, Voxel-Based and FLIP fluids. With this knowledge you will endeavor in a production oriented project to integrate a cg water fountain into a live action background plate. We will explore Houdini’s Rigid Body Dynamics (RBD) for collision detection, FLIP fluids for the bulk of the water effects, DOPs Forces for wind, foam and spray using some built in shelf tools (whitecaps) and lastly, lighting, shading, rendering and compositing the final image.

Gilbert is a freelance VFX artist with over six years of Houdini experience. He graduated with his MFA in 3D Animation and Visual Effects with a concentration in fluid dynamics from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. He then worked at Side Effects Software Inc. building and teaching a series of basic and intermediate Pyro Effects classes in Santa Monica. More recently, Jonathan finished working on the last Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 as a Technical Director at Gradient Effects. He also is currently a Professor at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, building and teaching Advanced Houdini.

Moncrief started working in VFX over ten years ago and has experience in Houdini, Maya, 3ds Max, After Effects, Shake, and just about every NLE you can think of. John just wrapped up 6 months working at Side Effects Software Inc. in Santa Monica where he created a library of Houdini training courses on FLIP fluids, DOPs and VOPs for industry professionals from various studios including Blizzard, Sony Entertainment and DreamWorks. He has one insane long-haired cat, horrible allergies, and is currently pursuing a Masters of Fine Art degree in Visual Effects at Savannah College of Art and Design in Atlanta.
